Ukraine's rightback was impossible to stop in Ukraine's opening match at the EURO 2008.She scored all of her nine goals in the first half, scoring from distance, from 7-metre throws and on fast breaks. After the break she let her team mates do the shooting job. She even took a rest on the bench for several minutes in the second half.In this period the team’s veteran, Maryna Vergeliuk, had the greatest responsibility. Vergeliuk scored five of her six goals after the break.Portugal managed to keep the pace with Ukraine in the first half, but after the break they had no chance. The Ukrainians did not need to fight too hard for a 38-24 win. They now have a great chance of reaching the next round together with Norway and a third team.
